On a sunny front porch, Arlo and Koa wait at the open door, feathered tails wagging as two smiling children cheer. Warm morning light glows across the wooden steps.
Knock, knock—it's visiting day with Koa and Arlo! "Yay, hooray!" cheer the kids. "Come on in," wag the dogs. This book is their friendly guide for happy, gentle play.
Inside the bright hallway, Arlo and Koa stand side by side, mouths open mid 'BARK' as the door swings inward. Dusty sunbeams cut through the doorway, catching their swishing tails.
"BARK BARK BARK!" shout Arlo and Koa. "That's our loud YOU'RE HERE remark!" Their feathered tails swish-swoosh. "We missed you!" they yip. Laughter jingles as the door swings wide.
In the living-room afternoon light, Arlo bounds in wide circles over a patterned rug while Koa sits nearby, breathing calmly beside a small bowl of treats. A laughing child kneels, hand poised to offer one.
They bounce like springs, circles on the rug. "Zoom-zoom!" goes Arlo's fluffy tail. "Deep breaths," whispers Koa. Everyone pauses. "Ready to settle?" you ask. Calm arrives, and hello treats appear.
In the sun-lit kitchen, Arlo stretches his nose toward a child's jacket pocket, floppy ears dangling and black-patched ear forward. Morning light reflects off stainless bowls on the tile floor.
Here comes Arlo, the goofy pup with a black-patched ear. "Sniff sniff!" He checks pockets, shirt, hands, feet. "Any snacks?" he wonders. To Arlo, every smell seems like a treat.
On the quiet backyard lawn at dusk, Koa lies low with soft ears forward while a kneeling child extends an open palm a few inches away. Golden porch light casts gentle shadows on the grass.
Here comes Koa, smooth brown and soft-eared. He's shy at first, but his eyes smile. "Hi, friend," you whisper. "Hi," Koa blinks. Quiet steps and gentle hands help courage grow.
Under late-morning sunshine in the backyard, a child holds a flat 'hand boat' just above the grass as Arlo and Koa lean in to sniff the invisible shore. Soft breezes ripple the nearby picnic blanket.
"Make a tiny hand boat," you say. Float it out slowly. Arlo and Koa sniff the shore. If they step close, you murmur, "Hello." Soft pets follow—hands gentle and sweet.
Along the shady garden path in early afternoon, Arlo tilts his floppy ears while Koa stands relaxed, watching two children stroll slowly beside them. Dappled sunlight flickers through leaves onto the gravel.
"No chasing doggies," you remind. "Walk, don't zoom." Arlo tilts his floppy ears. "Monster?" Koa wonders, then relaxes. Calm feet and quiet voices make trust bloom like warm sunshine.
In the dimly lit family room at dusk, Arlo sits with hopeful eyes beside a child paging through a book. The child lifts a palm, and Arlo steps back toward a cushioned bed beneath the reading lamp.
Arlo, the mushy cuddle-bug, plops beside you. "Snuggles?" he asks with hopeful eyes. If you say, "No hugs today," Arlo pauses. "Okay!" He steps back and finds a comfy spot.
Morning light fills the tiled kitchen as a child holds a treat high, saying 'please wait' while Arlo sits politely, feathered tail brushing the floor. A jar of snacks rests open on the counter behind them.
Arlo's super nose wiggles. "Got snacks?" he tags along. Hold treats up high or take a seat. "Please wait," you say. "HEY, SHARE THAT TREAT!" he jokes, then sits politely.
In the bright playroom, Koa stands near the doorway, lip licking and glancing sideways while a child pauses mid-step, giving him space. Colorful afternoon light spills through a window onto scattered toy blocks.
Koa needs room to feel okay. Loud stomps can worry him. "Space, please," says his body—lip licks, a yawn, side-eye. Pause and speak softly. He returns when safe, braver each visit. "Arlo loves you; Koa too—your kindness keeps dogs safe!"
